Semiotics Explorations on Designing the Information Intensive Web Interfaces
نویسندگان
چکیده
The growth of technological innovations, internet developments, and their (web) applications has raised a definite issue on retaining the web interface quite understandable. Moreover, a need is also being felt on developing suitable and coherent guidelines for designing interface to swell the user interpretability of web signs. These design principles are semiotics by nature and semiotics is the science of signs, that is, meaning’s of representations. For this, new and important perspectives for interface design would be discovered by semiotic analysis on interface signs. Therefore, this research mainly focuses on the valuable insights that semiotic analysis could offer to present the fundamental concepts to create understandable signs. The fundamental role of this research is to provide the semiotics background to the web designers with presenting the entire semiotics explanations for a particular web domain and the semiotics golden rules that will help them to designing the web interface signs comprehensible and usable to work with.

Semiotics as a Theoretical Foundation of
This paper sets forth semiotics as a viable theoretical foundation of information design. In addition to presenting a brief history of the development of semiotics it also gives three examples of how semiotic principles are applied to specific fields of study. These areas include information systems engineering, organizational decision support systems, information intensive web interfaces, and ...
متن کاملBehavioral Considerations in Developing Web Information Systems: User-centered Design Agenda
The current paper explores designing a web information retrieval system regarding the searching behavior of users in real and everyday life. Designing an information system that is closely linked to human behavior is equally important for providers and the end users. From an Information Science point of view, four approaches in designing information retrieval systems were identified as system-...
متن کامل"Just-in-Place" Information for Mobile Device Interfaces
This paper addresses the potentials of context sensitivity for making mobile device interfaces less complex and easier to interact with. Based on a semiotic approach to information representation, it is argued that the design of mobile device interfaces can benefit from spatial and temporal indexicality, reducing information complexity and interaction space of the device while focusing on infor...
متن کاملdesigning and implementing a 3D indoor navigation web application
During the recent years, the need arises for indoor navigation systems for guidance of a client in natural hazards and fire, due to the fact that human settlements have been complicating. This research paper aims to design and implement a visual indoor navigation web application. The designed system processes CityGML data model automatically and then, extracts semantic, topologic and geometric...
متن کاملWeb-based Support for Cooperative Software Engineering1
The Tatami project is building a system to support software engineering over the internet, exploiting recent advances in web technology, interface design, and specification. Our effort to improve the usability of such systems has led us into algebraic semiotics, while our effort to develop better formal methods for distributed concurrent systems has led us into hidden algebra and fuzzy logic. T...
